Suffolk Archives: About Us

Suffolk Archives is home to 900 years’ worth of Suffolk’s history captured through thousands of documents. We are open for everyone to discover the past through our collections in our branches in Bury St. Edmunds, Lowestoft and Ipswich. Our team of staff and volunteers work to look after Suffolk’s nationally and internationally significant archives.

Leave your mark on Suffolk’s history by volunteering with us

We have volunteering opportunities to suit busy lifestyles or those looking to do more with their time. Whether you can spare us a minute, an hour, a morning/afternoon or a regular day, your support is precious to us.

To get involved is simple; find and accept a challenge that grabs your interest! Volunteering is a fantastic way to learn new skills, meet new people with similar interests and find fulfilment. But don’t just take it from us, see what our volunteers say about volunteering at Suffolk Archives by clicking on the images below.

We look forward to welcoming you into the team. If you wish to discuss anything further before signing up, please email volunteering.archives@suffolk.gov.uk
