Map conservation - reheading

We have over 5000 maps in our collection which are stored in map tanks. The maps are kept straight by hanging on bars in the tanks. We have new tanks ready to be moved in to the Hold, therefore we need to attach new strips(also known as heads) to the maps for them to hang in the tanks.

What's involved?

You will be working in a team to carefully take the old heads off the maps, copy over the map reference and year onto the new head and attach it to the map.

You'll be starting off with the younger maps for practise and then moving on to older ones.

This will occur every Friday in the Ipswich branch, 10am-2pm.

Why get involved?

Enjoy working as a team and see the real progress you are making to conserve our collection ready for the Hold.

How to get involved?

  1. Sign into your account or sign up to Volunteer Makers.
  2. Accept the challenge.
  3. Await a response from Suffolk Archives with more information.
